Did you know that you can easily wallpaper your computer?

Wallpaper adds a design or picture to the desktop. That’s the area where all the icons are. There are a few different ways to wallpaper. Martha’s favorite way is with a simple right click. Right click any blank area of the desktop. Remember a right-click causes a menu to appear. Click "properties" on the menu.

displaywindow.jpg (21505 bytes) Notice all the tabs along the top of the Display Properties window.
In the Background tab area look for a section titled Wallpaper.
Use the drop down menu there to select one of the wallpaper choices your computer already has available.
Notice the little monitor near the top of that window. It allows you see a preview of the wallpaper choices. Click once on any of the wallpaper choices listed to see a preview. Try several to see what they look like.

Try the other drop down menu to the right that is titled "Display". That menu will have these choices listed: Center, Tile, Stretch. Try each one and see how the preview changes.

Find one you like and click the Apply button followed by the OK button. It's easy!

Here's how to create your own wallpaper from a picture :

Find a picture you like. It could be a photograph or drawing you've scanned or a picture you found on the Internet.

Let’s experiment with these:

  • Right Click
    on any of these pictures.
(Point to it with your cursor
and press the mouse button that’s on the right side one time).

Remember - a right click pops up a menu, a list of choices.

  • Look for the choice that says
"Set as Wallpaper" or "Set as Background",
and click it with a normal left click.

  • It’s as simple as that.
    You just wallpapered your computer.

Let's see what your new wallpaper looks like by minimizing the window you’re working in now. Click the minimize button,

How do you like your new wallpaper? Did it look like this or this?

If it looked like this, it is "tiled". Just like tile on a floor repeats over and over covering the whole area.

If it looked like this it is "centered".

Martha loves to create her own wallpaper designs, and so can you. You can use the Paint program on your computer. Draw a picture or design. Save your picture as usual. Then click File and Set As Wallpaper.

Martha’s tip for living with wallpaper is to choose designs that aren’t too busy so you can still easily spot the icons you need.  Wallpapering is a simple way to give your computer a bright new and personalized look. Try some special wallpaper during holidays.
